This Saturday, up at Hull, one light-middleweight is hoping for redemption.

The Blackpool fighter Brian Rose has taken the decision to take a re-match with the big-hitting American boxer, Carson Jones.

The last time Rose got into the ring with Jones he was on the verge of a world-title fight against the WBA champion Erislandy Lara.

But things didn?t go Rose?s way as Jones wobbled Rose with a huge first round shot that saw the referee that night, Ian John-Lewis, stop the fight.

Naturally, Rose is still protesting that he should have been allowed to box on, remarking to the media,

‘I do think that last fight was stopped a little early but I don’t blame the ref anymore.

I blame myself for getting caught with that shot. The way I acted afterwards was a little bit out of order but I am sure people will understand my frustration.

‘I’ve had 30 fights now but I shouldn’t be stopped in the first round in my hometown, where all my friends have bought tickets but like I say, I am not going to dwell on the past.

‘I’m not going to blame the referee any more I am just going to blame myself, take it as a mistake and look forward to beating Carson Jones. I am just grateful I’ve got another chance.

‘I am going to put Carson Jones to bed and move on. I know all fighters say it but I am 100 per cent sure that I am going to knock Carson Jones out.’

Now whether Rose, a little older and a little more mature; can do that remains to be seen, but on a thrilling night of boxing in Hull, it is one fight to look forward to.
