It is with great sadness that we have to report that the legend that is Terry Downes has passed away.

Downes passed away, in his sleep, aged eighty-one.

During his professional career Downes achieved 35 wins with 28 coming by knockout whilst suffering 9 defeats.

The highlight of his career came in 1961 when, fighting at the Empire Pool in Wembley, he beat Paul Pender to become the world middleweight champion of the world.

Another highlight came in 1962 when he beat the legend that was Sugar Ray Robinson.

Downes, known as the Paddington Express, due to his aggressive style, had a professional career that lasted just seven years.

Following his retirement from the sport, Downes went on to have a 25-year-long acting career and was also awarded the British Empire Medal.
