Having recently watched the world-title clash between Carl Frampton and Scott Quigg, a fight that Frampton won, the clamour has been for Frampton to step into the ring with the WBA / WBO super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux.
Rigondeaux, with a record of 16-0 with 10 of those wins coming by way of knockout, is considered the true champion of the ring. However, in the aftermath of the fight, Frampton?s camp spoke about Rigondeaux not being in their plans, suggesting his style was not conducive to a good fight.
This weekend, British fight fans have been looking to see Rigondeaux in the flesh with the champion set to fight at the Liverpool Echo Arena this Saturday night. The fight, a non-title fight, was supposed to be against James ?Jazza? Dickens, a fighter with a record that reads 211 with 6 wins coming by knockout.
Unfortunately it appears the fight might be a non-event with it being reported that Rigondeaux is having visa problems and there is now uncertainty as to whether the clash will happen.
It?d be a crying shame, for both boxers (and the fans) if the fight was to be called off.
