Tonight, at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, New York, Andy Lee should have been defending his WBO middleweight title against Peter Quillin.

However, whilst the two boxers will still step into the ring Lee?s WBO world title will not be at stake.

It transpires that the unbeaten Quillin, with a record of 31-0 with 22 wins coming by way of knockout, failed to make the middleweight limit at the weigh-in.

Although given two hours to shed the excess poundage, Quillin couldn?t and the WBO therefore had no option other than to declare the fight would not carry it?s advertised world title status.

Quillin, talking to the media, had this to say,

?What can I say? I didn?t make weight. I want to apologize to Andy Lee and to all my supporters and fans. I made every effort to make weight but it just wasn?t meant to be and I have no one else to blame but myself. I may not win a title tomorrow but I still have a fight to win and I still plan to put on a good performance. I promise to use this as a learning experience for the future. God bless.?

Dumfounded is the word that springs to mind!
