And finally the country gets the super-bantamweight fight it wants!
Speculation had been rife that a deal to seal a fight between Carl Frampton and Scott Quigg was nearing completion and late this afternoon it was announced that such a deal had been finally done.
Frampton, the IBF super-bantamweight champion, will go toe-to-toe with Quigg, the current WBA title holder, in Manchester on February 27th.
Both belts will be up for grabs and Frampton, talking about fighting in Quigg?s backyard, had this to say,
‘I’m the legitimate champion and I’m going to his back yard to defend my title because that’s what champions do.?
Whereas Quigg, commenting on the fight, had this to say,
‘I’ve finally got the fight I’ve wanted for so long.
‘I’ve dedicated my life to this sport and I have never been more confident going into a fight. I know I will beat him in every department.’
Although some way off, this is definitely a date that is going in the diary!
