Prior to his fight last night, Bury?s Scott Quigg had spoken about winning his super-bantamweight world title in the ring rather than being handed it almost by default.

Having had to wait another week to meet Cuba?s Yoandris Salinas, having originally been scheduled to fight him on the undercard of last weeks postponed Haye v Fury bill, Quigg did exactly that.

But, although Quigg did get the verdict it was by the narrowest of margins with the official verdict being a majority draw with two judges scoring the fight 114-114and the third giving it to Quigg by a score of 115-113.

Salinas, fighting for the first time in a year, had the better of the early action, catching Quigg frequently and building u an early lead. However Quigg, under orders to take Salinas intot he latter stages of the fight and then launch an offensive, had the better of the latter rounds making it a very close fight.

Talking about the decision afterwards, Quigg remarked,

?I deserved it. I stuck to my plan and the tactics were spot on but I possibly gave him too many rounds.?

You certainly did Scott, my heart was in my mouth when the verdict was read out!
