Saturday night is drawing nearer by the day and for one of the fighters on the under-card of the huge Anthony Joshua v Wladimir Klitschko bill, his fight has suddenly been given extra importance.
Scott Quigg is due to take on Viorel Simion at featherweight. However, it has now been decreed that the fight has been classified, by the IBF, as an eliminator for the IBF world featherweight crown currently held by Lee Selby.
The IBF rankings have Quigg rated at their #5 whilst Simion is rated as their #4.
With the fight being classified as an eliminator there is every chance that the winner will, in their next fight, be taking on Selby.
Talking about the possibility, Eddie Hearn is quoted as having remarked,
‘It’s a great opportunity for Scott and with the uncertainty over Jonathan Barros it’s very likely that the winner in Saturday will have to fight Lee Selby next.
‘It’s a fight Scott is targeting and one he would jump at so Saturday’s win now becomes even more vital.’
Let?s hope there are no mishaps for Quigg who is now trained by the legend that is Freddie Roach.
