Over in Russia last night, the #1 WBC heavyweight contender; Alexander Povetkin, recorded another win.

Povetkin, who should have been fighting Bermane Stiverne for a version of the WBC heavyweight title, fought against the very late replacement Johann Duhaupus instead.

The original fight against Stiverne fell apart after Povetkin found out he?d failed a drugs test on the eve of the fight. With the WBC withdrawing their sanctioning of the fight, Stiverne quite rightly exercised his right to walk away from the fight.

Taking on the late but game substitute, Povetkin dominated his replacement opponent and knocked Duhaupus out in the 6th round.

Povetkin, in winning, took his record to 31-3 with 23 wins coming by way of knockout but one has to question whether, following his second failed drugs test, he?ll keep hold of that #1 ranking and get the chance to take on the WBC champion Deontay Wilder.
