In the US last night, at the Cintas Arena in Cincinnatio, Ohio, the hugely impressive Lamont Peterson became a two weight world champion.

Peterson, with an emphatic display, beat the WBA world welterweight champion David Avanesyan.

The official verdict was that of a unanimous points one with all three judges giving it to Peterson by the following margins:

? 116 ? 113
? 116 ? 112
? 116 ? 112

The first few rounds were pretty even but Peterson began to take control in the second half of the fight.

Peterson, through sheer volume of punches thrown, started to wear Avanesyan down and in the tenth round the champion almost fell through the ropes as the close-quarters action moved to the ropes.

With no knockdowns and only a nose bleed for Avanesyan, the fight lacked any real excitement for the neutral. However boxing aficionados would have been hugely impressed with the work of Peterson.

The victory moves Peterson?s professional record to 35-3-1 with 17 of those wins coming by knockout whilst Avanesyan sees his record slip to 22-2-1 with 11 of his wins coming by the big knockout.
