With the heavyweight scene exploding into life all the talk has been about Northern Hemisphere fighters dominating the division.
But, down in the Southern Hemisphere is a fighter who is making waves of his own as he edges towards a possible world title fight somewhere down the road.
Joseph Parker, a fine physical specimen, has a record that reads 17-0 with 15 of those wins coming by way of knockout.
This coming weekend Parker has the 18th fight of his professional career against Jason Bergman, a journeyman fighter who has a record that reads 25-11-2 with 16 wins coming by way of knockout.
Parker watched Charles Martin win the IBF world title, in New York, last weekend and wasn’t impressed by the new champion, remarking about hi 3rd round win,
?Charles Martin, we watched him, and he won the IBF championship of the world, but we don?t think he?s anything special.
?We?re heading in the right direction after seeing what they did in the ring.?
Parker should win comfortably this weekend but one wonders whether he’ll need to move into the northern hemisphere to get the fights he really needs to prove his pedigree.
