In Brisbane, Australia, last night, Jeff Horn pulled off a shock to take the WBO welterweight title off of Manny Pacquiao.

Pacquiao, an eight-weight world champion was beaten on points, with the verdict being unanimous, although one judge?s scoring might have favoured Horn more than it should have.

The official verdicts were:

? 115 ? 113 (in favour of Horn)
? 117 ? 111 (in favour of Horn)
? 115 ? 113 (in favour of Horn)

The results gives Australia a world title holder with Horn?s record moving to 17-0-1, whereas the veteran Pacquiao has now lost four of his last nine fights.

The challenger started the fight well, with his aggressive style whilst Pacquiao was using his jab to score points.

The middle part of the fight saw Horn get on top and Pacquiao was cut above both eyes. The Filipino fought back in the ninth with Horn being caught by a good counter-attack. However, the challenger rallied and took the tenth round with a spirited display.

Horn started the final two rounds well, catching the judge?s eyes with some decent work, with Pacquiao rallying late-on.

But the fight was clearly won by Horn with the beaten champion remarking to the media afterwards,

‘That’s the decision of the judges. I respect that.?

At thirty-eight years of age, it?s hard to see where Pacquiao goes after this defeat, for Horn, who it is said received just $500,000 for the fight, stardom beckons.
