It?s always sad when a boxer retires without fulfilling his potential but, sometimes, they have no choice.

Today it has been announced that Ovill McKenzie has been forced to retire from the sport on medical grounds.

McKenzie, who is the British, Commonwealth and WBA intercontinental cruiserweight champion, has been diagnosed with a heart condition.

The 36-year-old was due to fight for the IBO world title back in September but was forced to withdraw from the fight, against the German fighter Marco Huck, on medical grounds.

During his career, the fighter from Derby, won 25 of his 38 professional fights, with 13 of those wins coming via knockout.

Here at Vital Boxing we wish Ovill all the best for the future in whatever activity he decides to pursue.
