After the recent stutter in his career, whereby Ricky Burn?s lost to Terence Crawford and Dejan Zlaticanin, before beating Alexandra Lepelley, there were those who suggested the Scottish fighter was finished.

His next fight, now announced, could well see the career of Burns rise like a phoenix from the ashes or sunk like a brick in the ocean.

It?s been announced that Burns will be taking on the unbeaten Omar Figueroa in San Antonio, Texas on 9th May.

Eddie Hearn, in his role as Burn?s promoter, is relishing the match-up and has remarked to the media,

‘I’ve always felt Burns v Figueroa would be a fight of the year contender and now it’s made.

‘This is a wonderful opportunity for Ricky. He is so motivated for this fight.?

Figueroa is, undoubtedly, a hard opponent having remained unbeaten in his professional career and it remains to be seen whether, having vacated his WBC lightweight title, he is the same fighter at the higher weight and whether Burns can return to the fighter he once was.
