Although Anthony Joshua may have given the impression he?d have no objections to fighting Luis Ortiz in 2017, it seems the Cuban fighter is looking to travel down a different route.

Ortiz, who takes on Scott Malik in Monte Carlo this evening, is a fearsome operator and has compiled a professional record that reads 25-0 with 22 of those wins coming by the big KO.

However, having joined the Eddie Hearn stable, it?s fair to say that Hearn doesn?t want to see his top two heavyweights, Joshua and Ortiz, matched together just yet.

Therefore when Ortiz indicates that he?s targeting the WBC heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder, there is method in his apparent madness.

Although Wilder is also a massive puncher, Ortiz knows that if he can land one of his punches first then he could bring the WBC belt to the table in what would be a huge fight against Joshua who has the IBF fight in his possession.

But, as we?ve often pointed out, heavyweight boxing is famous for its unpredictability, one punch can change everything.

Ortiz has to beat Malik tonight; Joshua has to beat Molina and then Klitschko, whilst Wilder would have to beat the winner of the ?interim? WBC world title fight between Povetkin and Stiverne.

Complicated this boxing lark isn?t it!
