Although it could be perceived, considering the coverage both fighters are getting, the heavyweight scene is all about Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder, could the best heavyweight on the planet be Luis Ortiz?

Ortiz, now in his mid-thirties, has compiled an impressive career record that reads 24-0 with 21 of those wins coming by the big knockout.

Currently labelled as the Interim WBA heavyweight champion, Ortiz was scheduled to fight on March 5th with his opponent being named as Alexander Dimitrenko, a fighter with a record that reads 38-2 with 24 wins coming by way of stoppages

However, it appears that Dimitrenko has gotten cold feet when it comes to taking on Ortiz, demanding more money to take the fight.

In order to keep the promotion on track the financial package scheduled to be paid to Dimitrenko was adjusted upwards but to no avail.

Ortiz, keen to fight, will now be matched against a lessor opponent with the likes of Andy Ruiz, Bermane Stiverne, Alexander Ustinov, Carlos Takam, and Andrey Fedosov being mentioned, but whether any of those will test the man who, despite suffering from flu, knocked out the former world title challenger Bryant Jennings, remains to be seen.

We’ll endeavour to keep an eye on Luis Ortiz as he may well, in the coming months, appear on the radar of the likes of David Haye and Anthony Joshua.
