Across the pond at the DC Armory, in Washington, District of Columbia, the highly rated Luis Ortiz wrapped up another win.

Ortiz, labelled as the interim WBA heavyweight champion, was matched against the aging former world title challenger Tony Thompson.

At 44 years of age Thompson showed that he is now a fading force in the division and was finally stopped in the sixth round of six one-sided rounds.

The conclusive punch saw Ortiz catch Thompson with a left hand to the head. In going down Thompson claimed that he hurt his knee and the referee halted the action with two minutes and twenty-eight seconds of the round completed.

But the finish wasn?t Thompson?s only visit to the canvas with the veteran also being knocked down in the first and third rounds.

The win takes Ortiz?s record to 25-0 with 22 wins coming by way of stoppage whilst Thompson sees his record dip to 40-7 with 27 wins by stoppage.
