I?ve never been a fan of boxers being on these celebrity shows, such as Strictly Come Dancing, when they?re still actively pursuing glory under the restraints of the wonderful sport governed by the Queensbury Rules.

But I?ll make an exception for Anthony Ogogo.

The Lowestoft fighter has had an awful time over the last twelve months. Unbeaten in eight fights as a professional fighter, the 26-year-old overcame Achilles problems to make a return to the ring only to suffer a dislocated shoulder in his last fight.

Subsequent surgery has side-lined the middleweight for another three months with December being a likely comeback date, therefore leaving Ogogo, how they say, twiddling his thumbs.

Therefore the offer to appear on BBC?s Strictly Come Dancing is an opportunity to keep active or as Ogogo has put it on his twitter account,

‘Punching for 16 weeks is impossible.

‘So this amazing opportunity has presented itself whilst I’m recovering from my shoulder operation.

‘My choices were sulk (and) sit on my backside whilst rehabbing my shoulder or whilst I’m unable to box make the most of this amazing opportunity.’

Here at Vital Boxing we?d like to wish Anthony well on a show that, unfortunately, is far from being my cup of tea!
