In the aftermath of the injuries he sustained in his unsuccessful defence of his British middleweight title, against Chris Eubank Jnr last night, Nick Blackwell was rushed to hospital with a brain bleed.

Blackwell was subsequently put into an induced coma and it was thought that he?d be operated on to fix the bleed.

However, it appears that an operation will not be carried out with Robert Smith, the British Boxing Board of Control?s general secretary quoted as having remarked,

‘I spoke to one of the doctors this morning and he said there is a bleeding of the brain.

‘He’s in intensive care, he’s in an induced coma and he is resting and being looked after by the experts.

‘It’s a very normal procedure. They put you in a coma to get the swelling to go down. There’s no timescale. Now it’s just a matter of waiting and seeing.’

Meanwhile his promoters, Hennessy Sports have tweeted,

‘Thank you all for the messages of support for Nick Blackwell. We will be issuing updates when the time is right.’

Our thoughts are with you Nick, get well soon.
