After beating Nonito Donaire in his last fight, at the SSE Arena in Belfast, Carl Frampton wanted his next fight, quite possibly for a world title, to be at Windsor Park.
Yesterday it was announced that would precisely be the case.
At a press conference, it was announced that Frampton’s next fight will be at Windsor Park, on 18 August against an, as yet unnamed opponent.
Naturally, Frampton is delighted at the news and remarked to BT Sport,
“This is the one – a dream come true. I’m the happiest I’ve ever been in my career.
“I’m enjoying myself and feeling good which is a credit to the people I’m around at the moment.
“I’ve still a good few years left in me and I’m looking forward to kicking it off at Windsor.”
Now promoted by Frank Warren, his promoter had this to say about the forthcoming fight,
“I promised Carl he would fight at Windsor Park and when we get there it will be a big tick in the box for both me and Carl.
“Belfast has come alive with the fights going on now – Carl’s spearheading that and he’s the catalyst.
“I know it’s going to be an emotional, great night in front of his home fans.”
Hopefully, Warren can entice one of the reigning world title holders to put their belts on the line at what will be a partisan Windsor Park cheering on the former two-weight world title holder.
Here at Vital Boxing we’ll bring an update as soon as we know who’ll be in the opposite corner to Frampton.
