Late yesterday afternoon speculation suggested that Kubrat Pulev had picked up an injury and wouldn?t be able to box at the Principality Stadium, in Cardiff, on October 28.

The late withdrawal, courtesy of a shoulder injury, left the promoter, Eddie Hearn, looking to find a viable opponent for Anthony Joshua.

With 70,000 tickets already sold for the promotion, in Cardiff, Hearn was in a difficult position.

However, the Matchroom promoter struck lucky when Carlos Takem agreed to take the fight, although it appears the French-Cameroon fighter had pre-empted such a problem and had been in camp just in case.

Talking about the events of yesterday, Hearn had this to say to the media,

?I received a call from Kalle Sauerland late afternoon to inform me that Pulev had injured his shoulder and may be ruled out of the fight ? this was later confirmed by his doctor.

?IBF rules state that the mandatory will go to the next fighter in line which is Takem.

‘When the Pulev fight was announced I made a deal with Takam’s team to begin camp and be on standby for this fight. When I called them this evening they were overjoyed and good to go.’

On paper Takam has a good record having won 35 fights, lost 3 and drawn 1.

However, he has knocked out 27 of his opponents and will be a viable threat to Joshua.

Thankfully, the show goes on!
