Sad news has broken on the internet!
It appears that the popular Manchester boxer, John Murray, has been forced to retire from the game due to an eye injury.
Murray, still only 29 years of age, held the British and European lightweight belts and had a chance to grab world title glory when facing Brandon Rios for the WBA version of the belt, in New York in 2011, just coming up short.
Recently, Murray fought Anthony Crolla for a WBO Inter-Continental lightweight belt but losing, giving his career stats the following look ? 33 wins and 3 defeats.
However, it has all come to an end courtesy of two operations on a detached retina that have seen the surgeons advising Murray to quit.
Speaking about the sad news, Murray has remarked,
‘I’ve had 20/20 vision in both of my eyes my whole life.?
‘At the moment I can hardly see anything out of my right eye, so I was told ‘if you keep taking punches like that you’re going to go completely blind’, so it’s just not worth it anymore.’
Here at Vital Boxing we?d like to thank John for his contributions to the sport and wish him well with his new gym venture wonderfully named Murray Machines.
