Yesterday speculation spread like wildfire that David Haye had picked up an injury that threatened his participation in the Saturday night showdown with Tony Bellew.

The speculation, published by The Sun, had several thousand boxing spectators eagerly waiting for clarification as to whether the cash they?d shelled out for fight tickets and accommodation had been wasted.

That confirmation came later in the day when David Haye himself confirmed the injury rumour was all a ?red herring? to get into the mind of David Bellew, with Haye remarking to the media about his rumoured Achilles problem,

?I have sent a few red herrings through different people.

?I went to Munich to see the doctor for the once-over and he gave me a clean bill of health. I thought it was all quite amusing. I was getting calls saying ?Are you injured?.

?Do I look injured to you? My Achilles are fine.?

Here at Vital Boxing we have to say it?s not the sort of behaviour that endears Haye to those who are attending the promotion at the 02 Arena and it?s probably fair to say that support for Bellew may be growing.

But we?ll leave the final word to the promoter of the Saturday night show at the 02 Arena, in London, Eddie Hearn, who commenting about the rumour and reflecting on the two occasions Haye pulled out when scheduled to fight Tyson Fury, remarked,

?He?ll never be able to set foot in a British boxing ring again if he pulls out.?

I couldn?t have put it better myself!
