Very rarely do sportsman manage to be successful in two different sports.
Of course, history is littered with those that do with several cricketers and footballers proving equally adapt with two differing kinds of ball.
But when it comes to giving up football completely and then deciding to try your hands at boxing, the list of those that have succeeded isn?t that long.
However, when you?ve got the surname McKenzie I guess you have something of a head start when it comes to taking up the pugilistic art.
But, in saying that, here at Vital Boxing we?ve nothing but praise when it comes to Leon McKenzie.
The former Premier League footballer, now 38-years-old, took up Boxing back in 2013 and after just 9 fights, in which he?s won 8 and drawn 1, he?s landed a national title fight.
McKenzie will take on Jahmaine Smyle for the English super-middleweight title, at the York Hall in Bethnal Green, on 12th November.
However, earlier in the article, we mentioned that Leon, with his surname, may have had something of a head-start.
Expanding on that inference, perhaps we should reveal that Leon?s dad is the former British and European champion Clinton McKenzie and his uncle is none other than the three-time world champion Duke McKenzie.
We?ll discover on 12th November if yet another McKenzie will feature on the boxing roll of honour.
