In the first of the, how you might say interesting fights on the bill at the Liverpool Echo Arena, Jamie McDonnell retained his WBA bantamweight world title.

McDonnell, who had to face a late change of opponent, was facing the durable Javier Chacon, a fighter who has boxed at the highest level.

With a unification fight, in Las Vegas, at stake if he could engineer a win, McDonnell had spoken before the fight about the pressure he was under.

Well that pressure was lifted when McDonnell won with a 10th round TKO over his opponent with Chacon retiring thirty-nine seconds into the tenth round claiming he?d picked up a shoulder injury. An injury that was later diagnosed as a dislocation.

Up until that point it had been an even contest, although it wasn’t until round eight when the injury apparently happened that Jamie started to get on top but our congratulations go to Jamie and we look forward to his Las Vegas unification fight, it should be quite a trip!
