Over in Texas last night Jamie McDonnell was making a defence of his WBA bantamweight title.

McDonnell had accepted a re-match clause to fight the dangerous and tricky Japanese fighter Tomoki Kameda.

In the first fight McDonnell, despite hitting the canvas, had taken a close decision.

Ahead of the re-match, which took place at the American Bank Centre in Corpus Christi, Texas, McDonnell had remarked he?d make the defence of the title easier than the first fight and McDonnell was true to his word.

After giving a sparkling display whereby only a knockout prevented it being a perfect nights work, although Tomoki did hit the canvas in round twelve courtesy of a slip aided by a punch, McDonnell took the verdict on the scorecards of all three judges with the verdicts being as thus:-

? 116-111
? 115-112
? 117-110

Twenty-nine year old McDonnell, in retaining his title takes his record to twenty seven wins from thirty fights and after the fight had this to say to Sky Sports,

‘Everything went to plan. The fight was easier than the last. I felt in control.’

Our congratulations go to Jamie on a fine performance.
