Returning from Texas having defended his WBA belt, Jamie McDonnell would, I?d imagine, have had a broad smile across his face.

Ahead of his defence against Tomoki Kameda, here at Vital Boxing, we warned the Doncaster fighter wouldn?t have everything his own way against a fighter who relinquished his WBO belt to face him and a fighter who had never been beaten.

In the third round McDonnell had to dig deep after being floored for the first time in his career and after edging the fight 114-113 on the score-cards of all three judges, McDonnell had this to say about being floored for the first time in his career,

?I knew he was fast but I didn?t see the shot and the next thing I knew I was on the floor.

McDonnell also spoke, before the fight, about this fight opening up doors, financially, he never dreamed he?d be able to do so remarking quite eloquently about his win,

?It?s more than spectacular to be victorious.?

This lad could go far!
