On the undercard of the Figueroa v Burns fight, Jamie McDonnell took a huge risk in taking on the unbeaten Japanese fighter, Tomoki Kameda.

Kameda had vacated his WBO bantamweight title to try and wrestle the more prestigious WBA title away from the UK?s McDonnell.

The action was compulsive viewing with both fighters giving their all.

McDonnell showed his grit and resilience by overcoming the first knockdown of his career, in the third round, and slowly wore his opponent down with a splendid display of boxing skills.

When the final bell went there was an anxious wait as those that assembled in the ring waited for the official verdict and when it came it was very close with the three judges coring the contest:-

? 114-113
? 114-113
? 114-113

all in favour of McDonnell who is now reaping the rewards for his years of toil.

Our congratulations go to Jamie on what could well turn out to be a life-changing victory against an opponent who had never been beaten before.
