The worst kept secret in boxing was finally made public yesterday when Floyd Mayweather Junior announced the name of his next, and supposed, last opponent.

With Floyd still proclaiming that he will retire after this fight, the 49th of his career, the unbeaten fighter has chosen to take on Andre Burto.

Burto, an American, is hardly an opponent that will inspire the boxing public to forsake all other things to tune in and watch him and any claims that the former welterweight champion s young, as claimed by Mayweather, fall on deaf ears.

At 31-years-of-age, Burto is no spring chicken although his record is pretty decent with 30 wins and 3 defeats.

Ahead of the announcement, our own Amir Khan was hoping to be Floyd?s opponent on September 12th but now the Bolton fighter must look elsewhere.

Talking to the media about his 49th fight, Mayweather has tweeted

‘Promise you this – I’m gonna be as ready as I’ve ever been. Don’t act surprised on 9/12,’

‘I always bring my A-game and this fight against Berto is no exception.’

Carry on Floyd because I hate to tell you you?ve got a long way to go to sell this fight to me.
