Mayweather Beats Pacquiao on Points

And so it came to pass that the boxer who describes himself as The Best Ever retained his unbeaten record and walked away with a huge pot of money in the fight described as the most financially lucrative ever, in Las Vegas, last night.

The build-up to the fight had been immense with images of the two fighters filling publicity shots for weeks on end. Ahead of the fight it was billed as, by some, being almost impossible to decide who would emerge victorious, as it turned out it was almost a one-sided affair with Mayweather Junior taking a unanimous points decision with the margin of victory being given by the three judges as:-

? 116-112
? 116-112

Once both fighters has entered the ring and the introductions had been completed, the opening round, as you might have expected, was a cagey affair with Mayweather possibly shading it with his faster hands being able to land a couple of eye-catching punches.

The second saw Pacquaio caught with some solid punches before Mayweather was caught by some solid blows as Pacquaio moved inside.

The third was more equal with both boxers landing some blows although Mayweather appeared to be getting the better of his opponent with some close up work inside.

In the fourth the Las Vegas crowd were on their feet when Mayweather was caught with a huge left hand and the indications were there that Pacquiao had something to trouble his foe.

The fifth though saw Mayweather steady the ship with his right cross troubling Pacquiao. As the action developed Pacquiao was having only sporadic success as Mayweather looked the more comfortable in the ring.

Mayweather, in the middle rounds, seemed to know that Pacquiao didn?t have the power to trouble him and pushed on with his work. By the ninth Pacquiao looked a tired man and Mayeather, as we entered the tenth, was making his opponent miss more than he was hitting.

The penultimate round saw Mayweather force the action, his jab constantly in the face of Pacquiao. Any thoughts of Mayweather being subjected to a fight-changing rally in the last round, didn?t happen as Pacquiao seemed to accept the inevitable.

On reflection, although the fight was a huge bout the action didn?t live up to the billing with it being far more one-sided that anticipated in the prolonged build-up.
