At the Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona, New York, those in attendance witnessed the war we?d forecast when Lucas Matthysse and Ruslan Provodnikov met.
The fight matched the WBO #3 light heavyweight contender with #4 WBO light heavyweight contender and it was a fight that saw both men end up bloodied, bruised and cut.
Matthysse, as it turned out, took the verdict by the following scores,
? 114-114
? 115-113
? 115-113
Although it wouldn?t have surprised anyone if the verdict had gone the other way!
Matthysse got off to a perfect start, pummelling his opponents face in the opening rounds but Provodnikov fought back well with success in rounds 3,4,8,9,11 and 12, an effort that could have earned Provodnikov draw.
The resurgence from Provodnikov was later blamed on Matthysse hurting his hand early on.
Talking to reporters after, Matthysse had this to say about his intentions,
?I want Mayweather or Pacquiao.?
Whether he gets his wish remains, in our opinion, doubtful.
