This Friday Derry Matthews should have been fighting for the WBA lightweight championship of the world.

Unfortunately, having stepped into the injured Anthony Crolla?s shoes, Matthews has seen the fight against the champion, Richar Abril, delayed until April 18th courtesy of a viral infection picked up by the champion.

Therefore, instead of fighting for the WBA belt, Matthews is keeping busy by taking on the confident Hungarian ? Gyorgy Mizsei.

Miszei is no stranger to these shores and talking about the challenge the fight presents this Friday Matthews has remarked to the media,

‘He’s been in with a few good kids.

‘He’s fought Anthony Crolla, Emiliano Marsilli – who beat me – Tom Stalker and Bradley Saunders, so he’s been in with some great fighters and he survives.

‘He’s won 21 of his fights so he’s coming to try and upset what I’ve got planned for next month. I know, come Friday night I need to be beating him and keeping that door open for the Abril fight on April 18.’

And as for the delay to his intended world title shot against Richar Abril, Matthews added,

‘In a way it has worked out better for me because now I have had the chance to work longer with Danny and Taff in the gym.?

Let?s hope that Mizsei has read the script and doesn?t spoil the party!
