You?ve just got to feel for Derry Matthews.

After stepping into the breach when Anthony Crolla sustained horrific injuries after being assaulted by villains in his back garden, Matthews could only watch on in angst as his fight for the WBA version of the world lightweight title was called off.

However, luck looked to be on his side when the fight was rescheduled for April 18th with the current champion, Richar Abril, agreeing to come to Liverpool to fight the challenger.

Sadly the fight has, once again been called off, with the Cuban suggesting that an illness prevents him from fulfilling his contractual obligations.

Once again Matthews must be feeling gutted but, we understand, talks are going on between the WBA and Abril?s camp to sort this matter out for a third time.
