As a new opponent is found for Abril.

With Anthony Crolla on the long-road to recovery after sustaining horrific injuries after trying to intervene in a burglary, the Manchester fighter was forced to pull-out of his WBA world lightweight title fight against Richar Abril.

However, one mans? misfortune appears to be another?s fortune.

It has been announced that Derry Matthews has stepped into the position vacated by Crolla and will take on the Cuban champion at the Liverpool Echo Arena on March 6th.

It?s a marvellous opportunity for Derry to become, some might say, an unlikely champion but with the fight taking place in his home city the opportunity exists for Derry to be carried along on a wave of enthusiasm and the, well anything can happen.

Remarking about the fight, Matthews has briefly remarked,

?It?s a dream ? and in my home city is unbelievable.?

After a lull over the festive period, the fight scene is starting to swing back into action and yet another potentially wonderful night has been pencilled into the diary.
