Fighting on the undercard of the Butler v Tete IBF super-flyweight world title fight at the Echo Arena, in Liverpool, last night was Derry Matthews.
Matthews, waiting for his April 18th BA world title fight against Richar Abril, at the same arena, took a warm-up fight against the usually durable Gyorgy Mizsei Junior.
The fight could have proven to be Matthews undoing with Mizsei having a victory over Emilano Marsili, a fighter who had beaten Mathews.
But with his date with destiny looming, Matthews wasn?t going to miss out and totally bossed Mizsei before stopping the Hungarian in the fifth round.
With a world title fight on the horizon, is Derry Matthews destined to become one of the most unlikely world champions this country has ever produced?
I sincerely hope so.
