Kiko Martinez came to Belfast confident that he could hang on to his IBF world welterweight title; he left with his career in desperate need of rebuilding.

Although Frampton had beaten Martinez in a previous encounter, it appears the defeat had propelled Martinez onto bigger and better things with the Spaniard having upped his game and produced some quality performances.

But Belfast, on a cold night, was a different kettle of fish and cheered on by a 16,000 strong partisan crowd, Frampton produced what many are calling the perfect performance.

After the fight Martinez was conspicuous by his absence with it turning out he?d gone to hospital to receive some treatment but the Spaniard was magnanimous in defeat and used his social network site to acclaim the new champion, remarking,

?Thank you to all Irish & UK fans. I did all my best. Carl is a true champ. Enjoy the title. Nothing but respect for @RealCFrampton?

Fair play to the fighter who can?t seem to get the match of Carl ?The Jackal? Frampton.
