At the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham this evening, boxing will witness the return of a familiar face looking to get back into the big time.

Thirty-three year-old Matthew Macklin, a three time world title challenger, will be taking on Jason Welborn for the vacant WBC International super-welterweight title.

Macklin, in order to gate-crash the big-time for one last time has dropped down a division but it remains to be seen whether shedding the extra weight will affect his performance or will he be a little weight drained?

Of the two boxers Macklin is by far the more experienced with a record that reads 33-6 with 22 of his wins coming by way of knockout, whilst Welborn has a record that reads 17-3 with just six wins coming by way of knockout.

At the weigh-in both fighters scaled 153 pounds and four ounces.

Can Macklin pull this one off, or will the ageing fighter who has looked pretty shot on occasions recently be beaten by the younger man.

Our view is that the longer the fight goes on the better chance Welborn has of winning, if Macklin wants the victory that will re-launch his career he may have to go for the early stoppage.
