It’s so easy in theory isn’t it, beat Sebastian Heiland and Matthew Macklin has the prospect of a WBC middleweight title shot.

Twice a title challenger Macklin takes on WBC International title belt holder Heiland at the 3 Arena in Dublin next month knowing this is an eliminator for a shot at Miguel Cotto.

Of course first and foremost the 32-year-old must win this fight first to have any chance but is already looking ahead to the prospect of fighting the Puerto Rican in what would most likely be fought at Madison Square Garden in New York, although he would prefer an outdoor venue in Ireland!

Quoted on Sky Sports he said: ‘Cotto is such a big draw in New York City at Madison Square Garden, but if you can do 60,000 people at Croke Park then the economics of the fight change.

‘If the fight captures the imagination and sells out a stadium, you can bring anyone, anywhere. That’s the dream.

‘Challenging Cotto in New York would be an incredible experience ? to face someone of his stature there. But that’s a lot of wins to put together first.’

Another potential fight could be against his fellow Irishman Andy Lee, who fights Russian Matt Korobov in Las Vegas in December for the WBO title, which is currently vacant.

Macklin feels that Lee has a chance to win that bout against his undefeated opponent and he’ll root for him and then look to fight him perhaps!
