During the early hours of Sunday morning, one of our top-fighters will be hoping that third time is most definitely lucky!

Across the pond, at the MGM Grand, Foxwoods, Connecticut, Matthew Macklin will be attempting to win a world title at the third attempt.

In the first attempt, many felt that the middleweight was extremely unlucky when a split decision went against him, in Germany, against the German fighter Felix Sturm.

In his second attempt, against Sergio Martinez in the Mecca of boxing, Madison Square Garden, Macklin was ahead on points going into the 10th round but a dramatic change in fortunes saw him pulled out, by his corner, at the end of the following round.

This Sunday, Macklin faces a huge challenge when he attempts to dethrone the current WBA Champion Gennady Golovkin.

To succeed will be a huge task for the Birmingham fighter but Macklin has a positive attitude about what he has to do, remarking ahead of the fight,

?This is my third time fighting for a world title and I feel that I?m a better fighter now.?

?I got robbed in Germany, I pushed Martinez very close and this is my third chance. I?m going to make it third time lucky. There?s no way I?m going to let the opportunity slip by me.?

?I?m in great shape and I?m going to be the new middleweight champion.?

I?ve already said that Macklin faces a huge task but if ever a fighter deserves to hear those magical words,

And the NEW champion of the world ??..

then it?s Matthew!

Good luck Matthew from all at Vital Boxing, we?ll all be rooting for you come the early hours of Sunday morning!

  • Macklin has been well-schooled over in the US but you wonder, if he loses, whether he will get another world title shot down the line, I seriously doubt it!
