I can?t help feeling that despite how much I?ve enjoyed the career of Matthew Macklin, it is now reaching its swansong.

Macklin, who has fought three times for the world title, has dropped down out of the middleweight division to fight at light-middleweight again.

On October 17th, at the Barclaycard Arena, Birmingham, Macklin will climb into the ring to face Jason Welburn, who has a record of 17-3 with 6 wins coming by way of knockout.

Macklin, who has campaigned as a middleweight for the past nine years, last fought at light-middleweight back in 2004 when he was stopped by Jamie Moore, in the tenth round.

Quite why Macklin has chosen to drop down a weight is open to debate, but perhaps he is of the opinion that there just might be an opening at re 154 pound weight for him to make one last impact in the sport he loves and has graced.
