Over in Moscow last night, Enzo Maccarinelli was taking on Roy Jones Jr at the VTB Arena.
In our pre-fight article we pondered over whether Jones would have too much class for the Welsh fighter, even though he?s now 46 years of age or whether Maccarinelli could find the big punch in his armoury to stop the American who is now a Russian citizen.
As it turned out Maccarinelli was to totally dominate the fight using his height and reach to keep the veteran at bay.
For the first three rounds the Welsh fighter, a former WBO cruiserweight world champion, bossed the action and when the fight ended, in round four, it was an emphatic ending.
Maccarinelli had Jones on the canvas twice and Jones? final visit to the canvas, courtesy of a big right hand, saw the veteran knocked out cold.
The victory took Maccarinelli?s record to 41-7 with 33 wins coming by the way of the big knockout whilst Jones saw his record slip to 62-9 with 45 knockout wins.
Could Maccarinelli be set for a return to the big time after this win?
