At the Echo Arena, in Liverpool, last night Enzo Maccarinelli was back in the ring.

Maccarinelli, on the comeback trail after retiring a few years ago, made a successful defence of his Commonwealth heavyweight crown with a victory over Courtney Fry.

The Welshman enjoyed the better of the action and had his opponent on the floor in the 1st and 6th rounds with hard shots to Fry?s head.

A further flurry of hard head shots, in round 7, saw the referee Richard James Davies stop the fight.

Maccarinelli, seeking to get to the world champion level he once occupied, has three consecutive wins to his name this year, however, it?s hard to see if he can obtain a world title fight on the back of the Commonwealth title.

Waiting for him, if he were to, are two world class talents in Adonis Stevenson and Sergey Kovalev who have beaten the best Britain has to offer recently in the form of Tony Bellew and Nathan Cleverly respectively.
