After seventeen years as a professional fighter, seventeen years whereby the Welshman has given his all in the ring, Enzo Maccarinelli has retired from the ring.
Maccarinelli, who once held the WBO belt, was fighting for the EBU version of the cruiserweight title, at York Hall, on Friday night.
His opponent, at the York Hall in Bethnal Green was Dmytro Kucher.
Unfortunately, Maccarinelli?s chances of winning the EBU belt came to an abrupt end in the first round.
Seeking the victory that would propel him back on to the world stage, Maccarinelli was knocked out after Kucher, having stunned the Welshman with a left hand, finished him off with a right, left combination.
There was no way Maccarinelli was going to be able to continue and as the referee stepped in to signal the fight as being over the towel was also thrown in his trainer, Gary Lockett.
A sad way to end but Enzo can be pleased with what he achieved in his seventeen year career.
