In Liverpool last night several British fighters were in action.

Derry Mathews, taking on Martin Gethin in a British lightweight title fight, took the verdict with a split decision, a verdict that left his opponent looking slightly bemused.

On the same card, in another lightweight contest Terry Flanagan, defending a 24 fight unbeaten run, stopped Yordan Vasilev in two rounds. The victory will earn Flanagan a crack at Derry Mathews British title on 25th July.

Chris Eubank Jnr continues to make waves in his professional career, extending his unbeaten run to 15 fights, with a 7th round stoppage of the Polish fighter Robert Swierzbinski.

In a one-sided encounter Eubank had his opponent down 7 times before the fight was finally stooped.

Wrapping up matters, the local fighter Tom Stalker made it 8 wins on the bounce, since turning professional, with a points stoppage over Ryan Hardy.
