In the lightweight division, there is a chance that two giants of the division could go head-to-head.
According to reports coming in, the WBC are keen to match their lightweight champion Micky Garcia, against Jorge Linares.
Linares currently holds the WBA version of the lightweight belts.
However, both fighters have fights lined up before a potential unification fight can take place.
Garcia, 30-years-of-age, is scheduled to take on Sergey Lipinets for the IBF world light-welterweight belt on 10 February and Linares is scheduled to make a defence of his title against Mercito Gesta, on 27 January.
Talking about what would be a huge fight, the WBC president, Mauricio Sulaiman, is quoted as having remarked,
‘Both champions will fight each other immediately after their bouts.?
But one huge sticking point could be if Garcia, who is unbeaten in thirty-seven fights, would be prepared to make a return to lightweight if he beats Lipinets to take the IBF belt at light-welterweight.
We?ll keep our eye out for any developments.
