There was disappointment for Liam Walsh at the Copper Box Arena, in London, last night.

Walsh, unbeaten in twenty-fights, took on the hugely talented Gervonta Davis for his IBF super-featherweight crown but was stopped in three rounds by the big-punching American who is promoted by the legend that is Floyd Mayweather Jnr.

The first round was a pretty equal affair, with both boxers taking a good look at each other.

The second however saw Davis up his work-rate and his speed and punching power were there for all to see.

The third round saw Davis up the work rate even more and Walsh, being hit continuously with the left hand of Davis, suffered a knockdown.

Bravely climbing to his feet, Walsh looked to carry on but the fight was to last just four more seconds before the referee called a halt giving Davis the verdict by a technical knockout.

The American now has nineteen victories to his name with eighteen of those wins coming by knockout.

After the fight the American who looks to be heading for super-stardom had this to say,

‘It was just a matter of time before I got him.

‘I used my boxing IQ and picked my shots – when I connected, I got him out of there.’

For Walsh, who had waited five years for a shot at the world title, it?s back to the drawing board.
