Liam Smith, brother of world title contender Paul, and one of four fighting Smith brothers from Liverpool, scored a decent win on the Liverpool Echo Arena undercard on Friday evening.
Smith, ranked #5 by the IBF and #13 by the WBA, was matched against a Polish fighter, Robert Talarek.
Talarek who had never been stopped before, came to defend but Liam Smith looked to be in good form trying to get behind the Pole?s guard. The fourth and fifth rounds saw Smith catch Talarek with several upper-cuts whilst also landing some body-punches that made the Pole visibly wince.
But Talarek was a tough cookie and looked as if he was going to last the distance until Smith opened up a cut above the Pole?s eye with a hurtful punch in the 8th round. The fight was halted soon after on the advice of the ringside physician and now the debate surrounds how quickly Liam Smith will be propelled towards a version of the super-welterweight world title.
