News has broken that the Liverpool light-middleweight, Liam Smith, has signed a contract to face the Mexican legend Saul ?Canelo? Alvarez.

On 17th September in the US, but at a venue not yet decided, Liam Smith, the reigning WBO light-middleweight champion, will be looking to become a two weight champion when he tries to rip the WBC middleweight title belt from Alvarez.

For Smith it is a fantastic chance to break into the American market with the Liverpool fighter remarking about the prospect of facing Alvarez,

‘To headline in America is a dream I’ve had since I started.

‘This fight will allow me to make a name for myself in the US and show the Americans and Mexicans just how good I am.

‘My next goal was to make my name across the Atlantic and this is the big stage that will enable me to do that against the biggest name in world boxing.’

Smith knows taking on Alvarez will be a huge task, last time out the 25-year-old fought Amir Khan and knocked the Bolton fighter out in the sixth round.

Here at Vital Boxing we?ll endeavour to reveal the venue, in a separate article when it is announced.
