Last night, across the pond, the big fight in the US saw Leo Santa Cruz take on Abner Mares at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles, California.

Santa Cruz entered the ring with a record of 30-0-1 and was taking on an opponent who had a record of 28?1 but who had won world title in three weight divisions.

As it turned out Leo Santa Cruz was by far the dominant fighter and took the decision on points adding the WBA Super World and WBC Diamond featherweight titles to his collection.

But, once again, there was a little controversy when it came to the scorecards. Two judges gave the fight to Leo Santa Cruz by a margin of 117-111 but the third judge somehow contrived to make the fight a draw, scoring it 114-114.

In taking the decision, Leo Santa Cruz used his skills to bloody the face of Abner Mares and had his opponent bleeding badly from a cut above his right eye in the 10th round.

Earlier in the fight, a clash of heads in the 2nd round saw both fighters pick up cuts, Santa Cruz above his eye and Mares on his scalp, but despite the blood flowing the fight action wasn?t compromised.

All-in-all it was an impressive win for Leo Santa Cruz as he maintains that unbeaten run.
