At a very entertaining promotion, by Eddie Hearn, in Leeds last night, the under-card had three interesting fights.

The first of these saw the exciting Gamal Yafai take on Josh Wale in a Commonwealth super-bantamweight fight. Yafal, the current holder, produced a classy display to take the verdict, over 12 rounds, to retain his title.

The second saw Tyrone Nurse defend his British super lightweight title against the popular Tommy Coyle. In a bruising encounter which saw the flight ebb and flow in both directions, Nurse emerged a narrow winner on points.

Thirdly, the 2012 Olympic gold medal winner, Luke Campbell took on the Dominican Republic fighter Argenis Mendez for the WBC silver lightweight title. Campbell had to survive a second round knockdown to claim the title on points by, despite the early knockdown, a wide margin.

Yafai, Nurse and Campbell can all look forward to continuing their careers on an upward spiral. As for Tommy Coyle, we’ve no doubt he’ll continue to provide the entertainment expected whenever he climbs into the ring.
