This coming weekend, Andy Lee defends his WBO middleweight title belt against Billy Joe Saunders.

It has all the makings of a classic encounter with Lee set to enter the ring with a record that reads 34-2-1 with 24 of those wins coming by way of the bug knockout and Saunders entering the ring with a record that reads 22-0 with 12 of those wins coming by way of knockouts.

However Lee is looking past the Saunders fight to a huge unification fight against the current IBO / WBA middleweight champion, Gennady Golovkin.

Golovkin who has a record that reads 34-0 with 31 wins coming by knockout, has proven to be an excellent fighter in the past eighteen months and is a contender for the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.

But Lee reckons he could get the better of him and has remarked to the media,

?You have to be an animal if you want to beat an animal. And I?d do that.

?It?s all speculation and if I don?t beat Billy Joe Saunders it won?t happen. But I believe I am the only one who can give him a serious challenge out there. I have the size, the punch and the boxing ring craft.?

Funny that, I seem to recall several of Golovkin?s previous opponents who have thought along those lines!
